CSIS and CALPADS
Dear LEAs,
FCMAT/CSIS is receiving many questions regarding CSIS’ role with respect to CALPADS. This email is intended to address those questions.
As you probably know, the California Department of Education has contracted with IBM to develop the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS). CSIS is providing subject matter expertise to CDE and IBM in that process and will be involved in CALPADS throughout the development, pilot, and implementation phases. CDE and CSIS both plan to have CSIS assume responsibility for maintaining CALPADS once IBM’s obligations are complete. Therefore, please understand that the answer to your question, “Is CSIS going away?” is, “No, CSIS is not going away.” The software LEAs currently use to obtain and maintain Statewide Student Identifiers (SSID) and to do State Reporting will be replaced with new software under CALPADS, but the FCMAT/CSIS organization will continue to train and support LEAs in their data submission efforts and will also support CALPADS technologically once IBM has completed its contractual obligations. In addition, CSIS will continue with its existing statutory responsibility to build local capacity and enable electronic exchange of records.
We look forward to continuing to work with you during and after the CALPADS transition!
